Ping Pong Dim Sum

I have found a spot in DC that serves Dim Sum worthy of my tastebuds!

I didn’t think I’d be able to find a place that made dim sum that I would really truly enjoy, lo and behold Ping Pong Dim Sum filled that void. If you live in DC or are going to visit the DC area, AND you like Dim Sum, you should give Ping Pong a try. It’s traditional dim sum (food, there are no carts) and a little high end mixed together. The food is not cheap, but it’s properly priced for the tasty factor + presentation.

We ordered shu mai, har gao, char siu bun, chicken puff and traditional sticky rice. In the second to last photo the shu mai was SO hot it steamed up the lens of my camera! I’m so glad we found this place, I was wondering if I would have to wait til I went home to Chicago or up to NYC to have dim sum again.

dim sum

I finally got some dim sum on last week with my bf! It was soo yummy!

What is dim sum?

Dim sum is the name for a Chinese cuisine which involves a wide range of light dishes served alongside Chinese tea. Yum cha (literally “drinking tea”) is the term used to describe the entire dining experience, especially in contemporary Cantonese. It is usually served in the mornings until noon time at Chinese restaurants and at specialty dim sum eateries where typical dishes are available throughout the day. Dishes come in small portions and may include meat, seafood, and vegetables, as well as desserts and fruit. The items are usually served in a small steamer basket or on a small plate.” -Wikipedia (!)

If I could say one set of food was my favorite, it would be dim sum. It always makes me feel happy thinking about it because growing up I would go have dim sum with my family pretty often. I used to have dim sum with my grandmother every new years day, it was our tradition. I don’t get to continue that tradition with her, but being able to spend time with my other family members having dim sum still makes me happy. The food is good and the company is always good which makes having dim sum one of my favorite things to do.

I don’t even have one favorite dish. I have like 12 favorites!

I’m always excited to go for some dim sum.

Best dim sum in the world? Hong Kong.

Joy Yee’s

My absolute favorite place to eat at in the Chicagoland area is Joy Yee’s Noodles.

There are a couple of them in the Chicagoland area which makes it easy to get to. The main one is in Chinatown, the other are in University Village, Naperville and Evanston. Their cuisine is pan-asian, so there is something for everyone. Most importantly, they make the best bubble shakes in all of Chicagoland. I have not found another that can even dare to compare.

You can ask any of my friends or visitors, I love going there or bringing people who haven’t been. I’m always down for Joy Yee’s! My favorite thing to get there is the special beef noodle soup. It’s Pho, I know I can get it elsewhere but I really like it. My favorite bubble shake is the strawberry freeze, but I also like their almond milk tea without bubbles.

Reasons why Joy Yee’s Rocks:

  • Huge portions at a reasonable price
  • Wide menu selection (something for everyone!)
  • Fresh ingredients = Yummier food
  • Best bubble shakes in Chicago
  • Fast service (Your food comes pretty quickly after you order)
  • They deliver, you can do carry out AND you can now order online!
  • It’s BYOB. Need I say more?

Minuses (the few):

  • It’s crazy loud inside sometimes (something about acoustics plus how very popular their restaurant is!)
  • They don’t serve dessert (Or would you have a bubble shake for dessert?)

Now that I’ve blogged about Joy Yee’s, I feel the urge to drive over there and get an almond milk tea from them! Mmm..
